Comments

When you leave a comment on our website, the data entered in the comments form, along with your IP address and your web browser’s user agent, are collected to help us detect any spam comments.

An anonymised string (or hash) created using your email address may be sent to Gravatar to check if you are a Gravatar user. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment has been validated, your profile picture will be publicly visible beside your comment.

Media

If you upload images onto the site, we recommend that you avoid uploading images containing GPS coordinates in the EXIF data. Visitors to the site can download and extract location data from such images.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you will be asked if your name, email address and website can be saved in cookies. This simply makes things easier for you when you next want to post a comment on our site, as you won’t have to enter the same information again. These cookies expire after one year.

If you visit our login page, a temporary cookie will be created to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It does not contain any personal information and will be automatically deleted when you close your web browser.

When you log in, we will install a certain number of cookies to save your login details and screen preferences. Login cookies expire after two days and screen preference cookies after one year. If you check the “Remember me” box, your login cookie will be saved for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookie will be deleted.

If you edit or publish a post, an extra cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie does not contain any personal information. It simply saves the ID of the publication you edited. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other sites

The articles on this website may contain embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles). Viewing the embedded content from other websites is the same as visiting those sites.

Such websites might collect information about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking tools and track your interactions with the embedded content if you are logged in to an account on their website.

Use and disclosure of your personal data

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

Retention periods for your data

If you post a comment, the comment and its metadata are stored for an unlimited period. That allows us to automatically recognize and approve subsequent comments instead of leaving them in the moderation queue.

If an account is created on our website, we also store the personal data entered in the profile. All account owners can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (with the exception of their user ID). Website managers can also view and edit this information.

Your data rights

If you have an account or if you have left comments on the website, you can ask us to send you a file containing all the personal data we have about you, including the personal data you shared with us. You may also ask for your personal data to be deleted. This does not include data stored for administrative, legal or security purposes.

Transmission of your personal data

Visitor comments may be checked using an automated spam detection service.
